On June 23rd, CinTurs hosted the seminar “TalentIA: Strategic Adoption of Artificial Intelligence for Talent Attraction and Retention across Different Sectors” at the Faculty of Economics, University of Algarve. The session brought together the TalentIA project team, including Susana Pescada (Principal Researcher), Bernardete Sequeira, Sara Pinheiro, and João Ricardo (University of Algarve and CinTurs), alongside José María Biedma Ferrer (University of Cádiz). The seminar presented the project’s initial results and explored future research pathways, offering valuable insights into the strategic role of Artificial Intelligence in talent management across sectors.The TalentIA project was made possible through the SEA-EU Seed Fund 2025, under the Partnerships for Excellence - SEA-EU 2.0 initiative (Grant Agreement No. 101089757), awarded to researcher Susana Pescada. Building on these first outcomes, the project will now advance to applied research in Portugal, Spain, and Italy, reinforcing collaboration within the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) alliance and fostering international knowledge exchange.Through initiatives such as TalentIA, CinTurs continues to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of technology and human resource management.
CinTurs took part in the Encontro Ciência e Inovação 2026 (Science and Innovation Meeting), the first major event organised by the Portuguese Agency for Research and Innovation (AI²), bringing together researchers, higher education institutions, companies, and other key stakeholders from Portugal's research and innovation ecosystem. Representing CinTurs, Manuela Guerreiro (CinTurs Coordinator, left) and Nelson Matos (CinTurs Integrated Researcher, right) engaged with discussions on the future of science and innovation in Portugal and the strategic priorities of AI², while strengthening connections across the national research community. Events of this nature are essential to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, contributing to a more innovative and sustainable future.
CinTurs researcher and Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve, Hugo Pinto, has been appointed to the new Board of the Portuguese Association for Regional Development (APDR) for the 2025-2028 term, chaired by João Leitão. As part of this mandate, the Faculty of Economics will host the Sustainable Regional Development Academy and the APDR Annual Congress in June 2027, two of Portugal's leading scientific events on regional development and cohesion policies. This appointment reflects Hugo Pinto's continued contribution to regional development research and reinforces CinTurs' commitment to advancing knowledge for more sustainable and resilient territories. CinTurs congratulates Hugo Pinto on this appointment and wishes him a successful mandate.
CinTurs congratulates Integrated Researcher José Santos on the successful defense of his second PhD thesis, La Transformación Sostenible del Turismo de Eventos, at the University of Málaga's PhD Programme in Tourism, supervised by Professor Manuel Ángel Fernández-Gámez. His work was awarded the highest academic distinction, Sobresaliente cum Laude, in recognition of research excellence. José Santos was further honored with the Tourism Research Award by the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Málaga, conferred on 12th March 2026. CinTurs congratulates José Santos on these outstanding achievements and wishes him continued success in his academic journey.
CinTurs welcomed Magdalena Daszkiewicz and Anetta Pukas, from the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business (Poland), for an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility for Training programme hosted at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve. During their five-day visit, focused on tourism, marketing and sustainability, the programme included job shadowing and discussions with CinTurs researchers on current and future research initiatives, creating valuable opportunities to strengthen academic cooperation and explore joint research projects. CinTurs is proud to contribute to initiatives that promote internationalisation and research excellence, reinforcing the value of collaborative networks in addressing the challenges of tourism and sustainability, and would like to thank Magdalena Daszkiewicz and Anetta Pukas for their visit.
University of Algarve (UAlg) recently welcomed a delegation from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), comprising six students and two faculty members, as part of the Study in Portugal Network (SiPN), an initiative promoted by FLAD. Representing CinTurs, Professor Célia Ramos, Co-coordinator of CinTurs, and Raquel Branco, Coordinator of the CinTurs PhD Network, introduced the center's research activities, international collaborations, and doctoral community. This visit marked the first time UAlg has hosted a Study in Portugal Network delegation, representing an important step in strengthening international collaboration and fostering connections with higher education institutions in the United States..
