Shanghai Ranking 2025
CinTurs is pleased to inform you that the Shanghai Ranking 2025 results have now been released, and the University of Algarve (UAlg) has secured its prominent position in the 76–100 range in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
UAlg is the best university in Portugal in this field and the only Portuguese institution included in this ranking.
It is an honour to see our university’s work recognized at this level. We firmly believe that the strong and consistent research output of CinTurs has played a decisive role in achieving this result. This outcome reinforces the international visibility and impact of our research, underscoring the global relevance of centers’ members every day.
Continuing to deliver high-quality, internationally recognized research is CinTurs' commitment for the future.

The SmartVITATUR project kicked off on 14 November in Olhão, uniting experts and institutions to advance the Algarve’s shift toward smarter, more sustainable tourism. Drawing on the Spanish Smart Destination Model, it will work with the region’s 16 municipalities to assess residents’ quality of life and smart-tourism maturity and to develop tailored action plans and strategic policy recommendations.
SmartVITATUR is led by UAlg and co-funded by the ALGARVE 2030 Programme and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

CinTurs is pleased to announce that THE INC 2026 international conference will have several publication opportunities, namely two Special Issues in the journals Event Management and Tourism Geographies, and also in the journals International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Travel Research, and Tourism Management.
Full papers should be submitted directly to the journal’s online platform.
These publication opportunities further strengthen the academic reach of THE INC 2026, offering researchers a high-impact outlet to disseminate innovative work on tourism, hospitality, and event experiences.

CinTurs hosted Professor Denis Tolkach from James Cook University, Australia, for a research visit!
Professor Tolkach met with doctoral students from the CinTurs Doctoral Network to discuss ways of strengthening tourism research through international collaboration, highlighting the opportunities available within both institutions. He also delivered a short course on “Ethics for the Development of Sustainable Tourism” sharing his insights and research with CinTurs members, PhD candidates, and Master’s students.
This visit reinforces CinTurs's path towards internationalization through the consolidation of a network of strategic alliances with universities and research centers of global reputation.

TMS Algarve 2025 International Conference
From 12-15 November, researchers, academics, and professionals gathered in Olhão, Portugal, to share insights and advances in Tourism, Hospitality, and Management.
Proudly organized by CinTurs and the University of Algarve, School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism (ESGHT), this 8th edition of TMS continues to uphold scientific excellence while embracing sustainability, innovation, and memorable experiences.

CinTurs would like to congratulate Professor Scott Cohen, an integrated member of the Centre, for his article “A review of research into lifestyle mobilities and digital nomadism: Launching the annals of tourism research curated collection on lifestyle mobilities”, published in Volume 116 of Annals of Tourism Research (January 2026).

On the 6th of November, Professor Sameer Hosany (Professor of Marketing and Head of Department at the School of Business and Management, Royal Holloway, University of London) delivered a CinTurs Master Webinar presented, discussing the process of “Developing Conceptual Articles in

This new edition welcomed Catherine B. Clauss (Department of Business Management, University of Cadiz, Spain), who presented two lines of research currently under development:
1) Employee Perceptions of HRM Practices: Theoretical Foundations, Contextual Grounding, and Strategic Relevance.
2) Exploring the role of diversity in the configuration and efficiency of scientific productivity.
This debate was moderated by Professor Jesús de Frutos-Belizón, Principal Researcher of the SEA-EU Complementary Action (University of Cádiz).

The last CinTurs PhD Net Talks workshop, "How to Build a Strong Academic and Scientific Profile", took place on November 20th. This session, which was held in collaboration with the Universidade do Algarve Library, focused on how to strengthen academic and scientific presence. Topics included author identifiers (e.g., ORCID, Ciência ID, Google Scholar), profile creation and updating, scientific dissemination platforms, and bibliometric indicators, with practical examples.
