Submissions for the
Tourism, Hospitality & Events International Conference (THE INC 2026) will close on 1 March 2026.
The conference addresses key debates and emerging directions in tourism, hospitality, and events research, with a focus on personalised and immersive experiences.
Researchers are invited to submit a 500–700 word abstract aligned with the conference themes, contributing critical, innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives. This is the final opportunity to submit your work!
On 11 February 2026, CinTurs welcomed the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Pedro Castelo Branco, for a visit to showcase the centre and enhance collaboration with the Rectorate team. This visit introduced CinTurs’ scientific performance and environment, as well as the activity plan from 2025 to 2029. Promoting better institutional dialogue and mutual understanding of current priorities and future cooperation opportunities.
CinTurs congratulates Scott Cohen, Integrated Researcher, on the publication of the article “Sexual non-monogamy in tourism” in Annals of Tourism Research. Using a qualitative approach, the study examines sexual non-monogamy as a form of tourist leisure, focusing on queer men’s travel experiences and the role of digital platforms, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of intimacy and well-being in tourism.
Fatemeh Bagheri, Integrated Researcher at CinTurs, is among the successful candidates of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 7th Edition, promoted by FCT, having been awarded a position as Assistant Researcher at the Universidade do Algarve. Her research project focuses on Regenerative Tourism, reinforcing CinTurs’ commitment to innovative and impactful research aligned with sustainability and destination regeneration.
In December 2025, CinTurs integrated researcher Jorge Ramos joined the BRASPOR network as Deputy Coordinator. BRASPOR is a multidisciplinary network focused on the study of contrasting systems, particularly coastal systems in Brazil and Portugal, promoting collaboration across the Exact and Natural Sciences and the Human and Social Sciences. This appointment reinforces CinTurs’ commitment to bridging research, territory, and public policy, and to strengthening international scientific cooperation through diverse professional and institutional profiles.
Christina Muhs, CinTurs researcher and
coordinator of the CinTur PhD Network, recently presented an overview of
ongoing interdisciplinary research at the Centre, spanning tourism,
sustainability, mobility and well-being. This
session also included insights from her PhD research on Vanlife as a
form of lifestyle mobility, highlighting its implications for
destinations, governance and host communities. This session not only
reflected the breadth of research currently underway at
CinTurs, but also the role of the CinTurs PhD Network in fostering
critical dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
On 28 January, the CinTurs PhD Network hosted the online session “Tips and Tricks to Apply to the FCT Scholarship”, aimed at prospective applicants to the FCT doctoral scholarships call. The session provided an overview of key steps in the application process and shared practical advice from former successful applicants, offering participants concrete guidance to strengthen their proposals.
The CinTurs PhD Network hosted the
webinar “Visual ABC for Communications” on 18 February, at 17:30 (Lisbon
time), as part of the PhD Net Talks series.
The guest speaker for the session was
Professor Gabriela Soares, Communication Designer and lecturer at the
Universidade do Algarve, who focused on the fundamentals of visual
communication and composition, offering practical
insights to improve the effectiveness of academic and professional
visual materials.
To address the challenges of prolonged
independent work in PhD candidates’ research, the CinTurs PhD Network
promotes the “Let’s Study Together” hybrid sessions, held every
Wednesday from 10:00 to 12:00 (Lisbon time).
These work sessions provide a structured and supportive environment that
combines individual autonomy with the quiet presence of peers and are
open to all PhD students via online and in-person participation.
